This is my worst NDC results – General Mosquito

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has described his performance at the just-ended delegates’ congress as his worst given his previous performances.

Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, amassed 2,685 representing 81.59 per cent to beat his sole contender, Ishaq Abdallah Farakhan, at the congress. Farakhan polled a surprising 606 votes.

The General Secretary is the only executive member to have retained his position after the congress.

But the former NDC Member of Parliament said he had secured more votes in 2006 and 2010.

He explained to journalists how he amassed 82 per cent in his first shot at the post in 2006 and then to over 90 per cent in his second run.

This is actually my worst results, he said shortly before the official results were made public by the Electoral Commission on Sunday morning.

Mr Farakhan had promised to beat the incumbent by 60 per cent prior to the elections.

Dr Kwabena Adjei, who had come to power at the same time as Mr Asiedu Nketia, lost his position to one of his vice chairmen, Kofi Portuphy, while National Organiser yaw Boateng Gyan, said to be a close friend to Mr Asiedu Nketia, was also defeated by Kofi Adams, one of General Mosquito’s deputies.
