Kofi Adams’ candidature receives endorsement

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) pressure group, Grassroots Supporters Front, has endorsed the candidature of Deputy General Secretary Kofi Adams for Saturday’s national delegates’ congress in Kumasi.

Mr Adams is vying for the National Organiser position but his candidature was challenged by Yaw Osei Gyamfi, a member of the party.

Mr Gyamfi filed a suit against Mr Adams after he accused the founder’s aide of once falling foul of the party’s laws.

That suit has since been dropped.

But the Grassroots Supporter Front lauded the credentials of Mr Adams within the NDC over the past years.

“Kofi Adams has been a loyal grassroots organizer over the years,” said Dela Coffie, the Convener of the group.

“As the regional youth organizer in the Central Region while the party was in opposition, Kofi Adams superintended over youth mobilization in the Region and delivered the entire Region to the party in the 2008 elections.”

He congratulated delegates over their steadfastness “and exposing this shameful act in the light of the pressures that they are facing.”

He added: “They must remember they represent the voice of millions of party supporters who truly believe in Kofi Adams’ candidature for the National Organiser position”.

Kofi Adams: Attempts to sabotage my bid will “fail”

National Organiser aspirant of the National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has downplayed what he describes as “attempts” to sabotage his bid to annex the seat in the party’s upcoming congress.

Mr. Adams has been dragged to court by one Yaw Osei Gyamfi. He is challenging Mr. Adams’ qualification to contest for the position of National Organiser making reference to his suspension in 2012 by the NDC.

Kofi Adams was suspended after a leaked tape emerged with a voice purported to be his where the voice alleged that it would ensure that the then President Mills would not secure a second term mandate.

He vehemently denied the claims and was asked to step aside for investigations to be conducted. He was later reinstated with all his rights and privileges. It is on this ground that Yaw Osei Gyamfi has dragged Mr. Adams to court.

Reacting to the suit on Accra based Joy Fm, Mr. Adams said “It’s the joke of the century.”

He went on further to explain circumstances leading to his suspension and reinstatement thereafter saying that “I was asked to step aside for an investigation to be done, I have not committed any crime… My allowances due me during my time of being out of office were paid and the accountant is still working to ensure that its paid.”

He further indicated that “All these attempts are not going to wash… We’ll go and meet them in court. I’m currently talking to you as deputy general secretary… In the constituency elections I voted, in the regional elections I voted and I did all that in my capacity as the Deputy General Secretary” so why would someone doubt whether I am eligible to contest or not?

Mr. Adams however said that he suspects some saboteurs who are out to undermine his campaign “otherwise why would it be coming out now, why would anyone come out now to challenge me if not for that… I don’t know where that accusation is coming from but whoever is making this attempt would fail.”

The National Democratic Congress goes to congress on December 20, 2014 which would be held in Kumasi. Already the party is battling an aggrieved Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Aboagye Dedieye from the Afram Plains constituency who says he was wrongfully disqualified.

The first hearing of the case was on Monday, December 15 but was adjourned to Thursday, December 18, 2014. The plaintiff is praying the court to place an interlocutory injunction on the congress following his “wrongful” dismissal.

Kofi Adams reinstated as member of NDC

Suspended Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams has been reinstated “as full member of the party”.

In a statement released on Monday, March 11, 2013, Mr Adams conceded it has been “a very difficult twelve months during which I have faced many trials from some elements within the very party I have dedicated most of my life to.”

“What held me together was my unwavering belief in the true ideals of the NDC as well as the full knowledge that I was innocent of the charges preferred against me,” he added.

He said he bore no grudge against anyone in the party and will continue to work hard towards the achievement of the goals of the NDC and its government.

“My special gratitude also goes to His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings for giving me the strength to carry on when matters nearly got out of hand,” he stated.

Kofi Adam was suspended after a conversation from a leaked tape was attributed to him.

He was reinstated, however, after a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of NDC at the Local Government Institute, Madina on Monday.
